This Thursday, May 17 is the 7th annual Global Accessibility Awareness Day, or GAAD. This event was started to raise awareness about accessibility, and the importance of making websites, mobile devices, documents and other technologies accessible to people with varying types of disabilities. It started in 2012, and is held every year on the third Thursday of May with in-person and virtual activities at more than 40 global locations.
The target audience of GAAD are companies and individuals that design and develop technology and products for people with disabilities. However, it’s important that we are all aware of the challenges faced by this community as well as the many solutions that enable accessibility for all.
You can take a look at the locations and activities that are planned, or check with your local Apple store, since many of them will offer accessibility workshops on Thursday. Even if you can’t participate in an event, you can learn more and spend some time experiencing the real-life impact of digital accessibility by trying out the suggestions.
Crawford Technologies, as a recognized leader in developing powerful solutions and services for document accessibility, supports GAAD, and will have staff members at several of the local events.
